Abstract:

During the retrospective study we reviewed the treatment of 96 dogs who had nasal tumor. From these dogs, 55 were from Budapest and 41 were from the countryside, and 55 were male and 41 were female. The age distribution was mixed, and the nasal tumors were classified as the following histological types: adenocarcinoma, simplex carcinoma, adenoma, fibro-chondro-sarcoma, chondrosarcoma, osteosarcoma, undifferentiated sarcoma, melanoma malignum, lymphoma, mastocytoma, haemangioma, fibrosarcoma, and undifferentiated proliferative cells. In case of the examined patients, 24 had operation and 14 had local chemoterapy treatment. The other 58 patients didn’t have any similar treatment. In case of the dogs who received treatment, during the surgical rhinotomy the tumors were removed. We made local chemoterapy through the frontal sinus retrograde, and through the nasal cavity as anterograde way. The average survival time of all patients was 6,34 months. The average survival time of the patients who got local chemoterapy was 3,5 (1-1,5) months, and the surgical cases had 8,5 (0,75-48) months. From the untreated patients 14, from the operated cases 4, and from the chemoterapic cases 2 had euthanasia by the veterinarian. The marker parameters of the progressive disease based on 3 points WHO staging system, the average point of the patients who recieved chemoterapy was 2,3, of the operated patients was 1,81, and the untreated patients’ average was 1,87. We studied the extent of the improvement and the shown tolerance of the dogs to the different way of treatments. Based on these examinations, all of the dogs who were treated by chemoterapy improved, and tolerated the treatment very well. In case of the operated dogs, from 24 patients 21 improved, and tolerated the treatment meanly. Some patient was not treated by surgical way or chemoterapy, they got only symptomatic treatment, and 2 of them showed improvement. Based on our studies, we can say that the local chemoterapy what we’ve used before is a chance to treat the patients who are classified to higher stages, and we suppose the long-term treatment is probably more successfull if the operation would be combined with the local chemoterapy.
