Veterinary sessionKispál Dóra - year 6 SzIU, Faculty of Veterinary Science, Department and Clinic of Internal Medicine Supervisor: Péter Vajdovich DVM Prothrombin Time (PTT) and Activated Partial Thromboplastin Time (APTT) coagulation tests based on citrated blood plasma are frequently applied diagnostic tools in human and veterinary medicine, in monitoring haemostatic disorders and are critical in case of biopsy sampling procedures, surgical interventions and liver disorders. Moreover, any systemic inflammatory disease can lead to disseminated intravascular coagulation, which causes pathognomic alterations in haemostasis tests. Development of whole blood „Point Of Care” systems has been spreading in the veterinary practice, especially with the blood glucose measurements, but not with haemostasis tests so far. We compared two traditional laboratory tests (Coag 4D, Diagon Ltd. and KC4 coagulometer, Amelung, Lemgo, Germany) and an In-House PTT, and APTT test (Coag Vet, Diagon Ltd.). Canine (n=236) and feline (n=54) blood samples were collected into citrated tubes (Na-citrate 3.8%, 1:10). The samples were measured directly by CoagVet (Diagon Ltd.) point of care coagulometer. Then the samples were separated and plasma samples were used for further tests. The results were evaluated by statistical analysis SPSS 8.0 computer program. In canine samples, CoagVet point of care instrument provided good correlation between the results of the whole blood and plasma samples. PTT values of the whole blood samples gained by the Coag Vet correlated with the plasma PTT results of the Coag 4D and KC4 coagulometer. The CoagVet point of care instrument’s plasma PTT values correlated with the APTT values of the KC4 coagulometer. In feline samples, CoagVet point of care instrument provided good correlation between the results of the whole blood and plasma samples. PTT values of the whole blood samples correlated with the plasma PTT results of Coag4D and the KC4 coagulometer too. The CoagVet point of care instrument’s plasma PTT values correlated with PTT values of Coag4D. List of lectures |
