Veterinary sessionKovács Flóra Zsófia - year 6 SzIU, Faculty of Veterinary Science, Department of Internal Medicine Supervisors: Tarpataki Noémi DVM, Lajos Zoltán DVM The natural host of Staphylococcus pseudintermedius is the dog. This opportunistic pathogen is responsible for canine pyoderma in most cases. Methicillin resistant strains represent an outstanding challenge for veterinarians, as the pathogen is also resistant to numerous other antibiotics besides methicillin. The increasing occurance of MRSP, even in Hungary makes the topic more significant. The aim of this study is to introduce the problems caused by this pathogen, to show direction is selecting the appropriate chemotherapeutics, and also to discover the clinical relations of dermatological infections caused by MRSP, based on examined data. Our retrospective research has taken place in the DUO-BAKT Állatorvosi Mikrobiológiai Laboratórium, where they identified 246 strains as methicillin resistant Staphylococcus pseudintermedius between the period of 2008.01.01. and 2012.12.31. We also collected other data from the hosts of the skin scraping-isolates (age, gender, breed, chronic background disease), and investigated the relation between them with Microsoft Excel 12.0, and the outcome is included in the study. Incidence of MRSP were significantly higher among the following breeds: west highland white terrier, french bulldog, shar-pei and other brachycephal breeds. The laboratory analysed the MRSP strains by disc diffusion method. Methicillin-resistance indicates resistance to all penicillin- and cephalosporine-derivates. The susceptibility of other antibiotics were the following: 13,01% of the strains were susceptible to fluoroquinolons, 4,07% to clindamycin, 21,30% to tetracycline, 79,39% to chloramphenicol, 4,08% to gentamycin, 89,73% to amikacin, to 98,28% rifampicin, 2,45% to erythromycin, and 4,94% to sulfhamethoxazole/trimethoprim. Vancomycin resistance has not occured. Mupirocin and fusidic acid-resistance has only occured once. Based on the study we concluded, that methicillin-resistance goes with co-resistance to other antibiotics in almost every case. The fact, that there has been no similar survey in Hungary yet, makes our study more significant. List of lectures |
