Abstract:

Cranial cruciate ligament (CrCL) deficiency is the leading cause of degenerative joint disease in the canine stifle. That’s why I have choosen this topic for my thesis. I would like to present the first overall experiences of a new modified surgical technic, which is based on the operation called Tuberositas tibiae advancement (TTA).

There are a planty of surgical procedures for this disorder, but we can’t say any of them: „This is the best”. That is why more and more surgical procedures has been developed so far. The basic technique of our modified operation entered in this big imaginary competition, in 2004. TTA gives a dynamic stability of the canine stifle, invented by a Croatian engineer in 2002, called Slobodan Tepic. Our procedure is a developed form of the basic technique, so called EasyFixTTA, wich is based on the idea of DVM. Zoltán Dioszegi. We have tested it, and collected information pre-, intraoperative, and about the recovery. Big differences between the former technics and this new one is that, this is less invasive, it needs a shorter learning curve, and it heals faster then other osteotomie using operations. Also a big adventage of this method, that it can also be used for the correction of patellar luxation.

In my research I collected data about 110 patients inconnection with the operation, and I made an owner satisfaction questionnaire, wich I have sent out, and I’ve also evaluated them. During this early phase the operations had a very good results, so we think hopeful about the future.
